CLOSING STAGES

The sinking grades of the never-men
Bound within ritual circles of reviled pride
Bring only stealth tools to an already anarchic table
of their own making

The seminar concerns what?
: Patch-up plastics and posy arranging
Pampas is trimmed and arranged, for Earth Day, in glass cubes
(held together with band aids and polythene ribbons)

Seats will be tagged in anticipation of a new rose
Hardy in the face of its competitors - but not strong
They may miss it; use it;needit; theywantit
Bleeding; open; slaughtered brutally in the power of control
An artery gushes into the hearts, minds and livers of man
                                                                                      (and fish)

Futility restrains itself in the workings of this game
An army of tunneled heads breathe in one direction
To meet in the centre of chaos; breeding madness and selling it
(For a dollar ninety-nine) on streets with corners described as ‘normal’

The reputation of all is fragile behind its neatly packaged stall
Prematurely protected and decorated in case we need to hide:

From afour minute warning
From fear and survival itself
From keeping somebody warm
From responsibility in safely measured units
From: no such thing as love
From hate in all its petrified glory

We have these forced treasures now
Right here; in ourblood-stained hands
This moment means nothing at all
We can throw it all on the floor
And make it good later; a centre piece
Crafted in our spare time, from the remnants of a good heart
When we start to repent in desperation
(Of course, we will)
because hope has moved out
beneath laughing, rotted landfill homes
Sunken and mulched with old newspapers
and the rest of our arrogant dreams
